The Government of Panama is exploring the possibility of issuing green bonds following the adoption of a sustainable financing framework, which would enable the financing of environmental and social projects. Panama already has over $750 million invested in thematic bonds, including $200 million in green bonds currently under review. This initiative is part of a governmental strategy to promote environmental and social development through sustainable financing.
About Green Bonds
Green bonds are a type of financial instrument used to raise funds exclusively for projects with positive environmental benefits. These projects can cover a wide range of areas, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable resource management, biodiversity conservation, pollution reduction, and climate change adaptation, among others.
The issuance of green bonds allows issuers, such as governments, financial institutions, and corporations, to secure financing for projects that contribute to environmental sustainability, while investors who acquire these bonds have the opportunity to support initiatives that generate a positive environmental impact.
